Awkward Silences #4

Posted in Uncategorized, ramblings by homiesbasement on March 24th, 2009

All right, it is finally here.  Listen and find out what happens when our heroes spend 5 hours drinking and talking before they start to record. The sound should be better after using Rocko’s fancy recording equipment, but like the 2007 Patriots at time our heroes are flat and left some of their best material at the waterpark.  But hey, it is still pretty good and it don’t cost nothing.

Tuesday Night Thoughts

Posted in opinion by homiesbasement on March 10th, 2009

Homies Basement is not open right now.  I am sitting in my living room.  The basement is all tore up.  Sunday afternoon a sewer line broke a few houses down and sewage started pumping into Homie’s basement.  I had Stanley Steamer in from 9 to 12 Sunday night tearing out the carpet and drying the basement.  Right now I am waiting on the city to OK paying for new flooring for the basement.  I will soldier on but tonight is a short one.  I just can’t write when I can’t sit behind my bar and have a drink.  Please check back this weekend for another Awkward Silences.

Tuesday Night Thoughts

Posted in opinion by homiesbasement on March 3rd, 2009

I have been thinking about healthcare a lot lately.

Why do old people get medicare after they stop paying for it?  Why don’t I get governmental healthcare when I am paing for it?  Also, the government pays for healthcare when it is more expensive, would the government rather cover me in my 30’s instead of my 70’s?  Now I get that people are paying into medicare throughout their lifetimes and then they  receive benefits, but still how much harder to cover me now?

I hear how people don’t want a big government agency handling their healthcare but isn’t it a big agency now that handles healthcare and they only look at you as a profit margin?  Really, the insurance companies are now trying to make a profit, even the non profits like Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

Why not put the national healthcare at a state level.  Let me tell you, if you want more people in your state offer better health benefits than other states.  This is how healthcare was founded thru business.  In the 40’s their was a wage freeze so companies offered better health benefits to lure good workers.  Now think of that from the state level.  If your state is losing good workers, the better state supported health benefits would bring the workers to that state.

Now look at it from business.  Why don’t businesses want national healthcare.  Lets say you pay a percantage of workers wage up to X amount, you would always know what insurance would cost.  Now every year you don’ have to go back to the insurance companies and get your new rate that just magically went up 10% this year, why, no one knows.  Make it the states responsibility.  Now businesses are on equal footing with the rest of the world.  Imagine GM without all the health insurance burden.

Now back to the states handling the healthcare.  If a state offers better heathcare at better tax plan wouldn’t people want to work in that state and wouldn’t businesses want to be in that state?  Wouldn’t that help struggling states bring back business?

If you have stumbled upon this please check back when Rocko and I talk about this and other things this weekend.  If you have any thoughts please send them to me or post a comment.
